Hilma af Klint

In the spring of 2013 Moderna Museet is dedicating a major exhibition to the pioneering Swedish artist Hilma af Klint (1862-1944), featuring many works that have never before been shown in public. This retrospective exhibition is Moderna Museet´s tribute to Hilma af Klint as one of the greatest Swedish artists.

This is a terrific interview from Modern Art Notes with Leah Dickerman, the curator of the Inventing Abstraction show at the MOMA.  She discusses why Picasso’s painting is the first thing you see, the development of the artist network that you can find on the MOMA website, Kupka’s evolution into abstraction, and the influence of Kandinsky’s treatise Concerning the Spiritual in Art, among other things art historical.
